In part: "I, Nelson Riddle...in consideration of the sum of One Dollar ($1.00) lawful money of the United States...do sell, assign, transfer and set over unto STANLEY STYNE...50% per cent of any and all sums of money now or hereafter due pursuant to my agreement with BROADCAST MUSIC, INC., for the public performance in the United States and Canada of the musical composition(s) entitled: lyrical version only entitled 'Open Highway (Theme From Route 66)" written in collaboration by myself and Stanley Styne...It is further agreed that this assignment shall be effective only so long as I receive from, or an (sic, am) credited by, BMI with 100% of the full writers' share of performance royalties then currently paid by BMI to sole writers of musical compositions...." Riddle's "Theme from 'Route 66'" had reached No. 10 on the charts in 1962. His other well-known TV themes include those for The Untouchables, Batman and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. NELSON RIDDLE (1921-1985) was the arranger and conductor for Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and many others in the early 1950s. He later worked with Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney and Johnny Mathis. Riddle was awarded the first Grammy for "Best Musical Composition First Recorded And Released in 1958 (Over 5 Minutes Duration)" for "Cross Country Suite". He also won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Music Score for The Great Gatsby. Lyricist STANLEY STYNE's (1930-1992) credits also include songs for two Gidget movies (1959, 1961).
