STOOPNAGLE AND BUDD
Autograph sentiment on an album leaf, signed in character by both members of the radio comedy team
Autograph Sentiment signed in character: "Sincerely/Col. Stoopnagle", "&/Budd", 6x4 album leaf. Frederick Chase Taylor (1897-1950), known by his stage name of "Colonel" Lemuel Q. Stoopnagle, teamed up with Budd Hulick (b. 1905) to form a zany radio comedy team. Hulick, formerly a radio announcer, played straight man to "Stoopnagle." They also appeared in films, including Stoopnocracy and International House ( both 1933). In one of their most famous routines, Budd interviewed "inventor" Stoopnagle, whose creations included round dice and a string-less violin. After the team broke up in 1937, Hulick had his own radio program, A Man with a Platform, playing an impassioned know-it-all who believed that "things should be done about things." Taylor, still calling himself Col. Stoopnagle, wrote several humorous books, including You Wouldn't Know Me from Adam, Farewell to Farms and Father Goosenagle. Toned and creased. Filing holes at left edge. Edges lightly worn. Ink marks on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
